Wedding planning

Planning a wedding in a tough economy can add even more stress to your life.  We're not all made of money, but you want the decor at the wedding to be beautiful.

Here are some simple tips to help save money and make your wedding spectacular!

*Use the linens the reception venue provides (they might be just white or ivory cotton, but many venues are offering a wide array of colored linens)

*A simple way to achieve height with your centerpieces is to use tall glass vases filled with water and branches (curly willow, quince or manzanita branches are great choices)  add some hanging votives and maybe a few blooms to dress it up a bit

*Add candles everywhere (dress up mantles with varrying heights of pillar candles, put pillar candles in the fireplace during hot months, line pathways with paper bag luminaries, use a ecletic collection of jars and vintage mason jars for luminaries which you can fill with pebbles to weigh down)

*Have less guests and a smaller bridal party (more guests equals more centerpieces and a bigger bridal party means more bouquets, everything adds up)

*Pick one or two main flowers and use them throughout the wedding (utilizing one flower and having monochromatic designs helps save money)

Posh Paperie

Of course, your wedding invitation sets the tone and gives a little glimpse to your guests of what is yet to come. Being that guests see your 'save the dates' and wedding invitation before anything, it's an extremely important aspect of the event.

Posh Paperie is one of the most trendy paper companies in the industry. I love some of the designs they have created! Custom invitations and all of your stationery needs can be so very pretty. So similar to our floral design company, everything is custom created to each clients individual style and of course, their budget.

They have been busy designing fabulous invitations and all of your paper needs since 2005. Located in San Diego, California, Elizabeth and Karrie are the powerful push behind this fabulous company! Visit their web site and see some of their creative works of art on Style Me Pretty occasionally. I'm looking forward to what they come up with for 2010!

Enchanted Weddings book

I've been writing a wedding book for nearly 2 years. It's amazing how it's evolved into this amazing inspirational guide for people planning weddings. You'll find a wide variety of wonderful weddings with an array of color palettes, styles and unique decor in this book. I've tried to put tons of tips, trends, rental vendors and some of the very best vendors in the industry so you (the bride) can plan her little heart away! I'll keep you posted as to the release date! We'll be traveling around New England and New York doing book signings and events.

Our company has been featured recently in La Bella Bride magazine and on Style Me Pretty.

We've been extremely fortunate to have come so far in such little time, having our company be very well recognized in the industry. So, each year we feel it's only fair to give back a little. We take applications and pick one lucky couple to design their wedding for no charge. This was this our 2009 wedding.

Wonderful reception venues

Some of my favorite wedding venues are situated right in Connecticut. Whether your pick be a rustic barn or a fancy ballroom for your wedding, you are sure to find something that suits your fancy.

The Society Room
Lord Thompson Manor
The Simsbury Inn
Tyrone Farm
The Barns at Wesleyan
La Cupola Ristorante & Inn
New Haven Lawn Club
The Loading Dock
L'escale

There are award-winning chefs at many of these locations and their menus will certainly please your palette. Many venues will custom create a tasty menu just for your event.

Real wedding featured on Style Me Pretty

We recently had the opportunity to design the wedding of Candice Dowling from Jubilee Events
Her wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful Old State House in downtown Hartford, Connecticut with the reception following at the Gershon Fox Room.

Romantic purples

This gorgeous stone urn was overflowing with 'cool water' roses, touches of green hydrangea, green brunia berries and lavender cymbidium orchids. It looked wonderful on this fun copper/chocolate linen from Party Rental, Ltd.

Back from Atlanta showrooms

Well our trip to Atlanta was amazing! Other than the weather being similar to what we have here...

We selected so many incredible new containers for centerpieces, fancy and unique ribbons, glitter covered snowflakes and crystal covered branches, etc. There are so many fabulous things we picked up, simply to make our weddings incredible and so very unique!

Keep your eyes peeled in the next few months for pictures of unique stem treatments, fabulous centerpieces and a real winter wonder land wedding we'll be creating just for Style Me Pretty.
